Only son of the late Maj. General and Mrs. Hitchins, of East Lodge, Belmont, Hove, Sussex. Twice Mentioned in Despatches for Gallant and Distinguished Service at the Capture of Givenchy, 20th Dec., 1914, and at Ypres, April, 1915. "The gallant Colonel of The gallant Manchesters" was respected and beloved for his noble and unselfish character, and for his conspicuous bravery.
