Son of Alfred William Davison Oakes and Marian Leontine Oakes; husband of Nellie Oakes, of Briar Bank, Farnaby Rd., Bromley, Kent. Accomplished valuable surveying work in the Abor Expedition, 1911-12. His brother Alfred Henry Royal Oakes also died in service.
