Son of Sir Edward Sharpey H. Schafer, F.R.S., of Marly Knowe, North Berwick, and Little Gillions, Croxley Green, Herts, and his wife, Mary Schafer. Scholar of Caius College, Cambridge. Nat. Science Tripos, 1912; Medical Student at University College Hospital, London. Enlisted Aug., 1914, in Australian Voluntary Hospital (Cpl.) and sent at once to France. Gazetted December 1914.
