Son of Julia and the late Edward Thomas Winbush, of Geneva House, 1, Shoot-up Hill, Brondesbury, London. B.Sc. (Honours in Botany). At the time he joined the Army he was working for his D.Sc., and was President of the Birkbeck College Natural History Society.
