463172 Private Allan Redfern of the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion:

 

He was killed in action on the 2 June 1916, aged 28 years, and he is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.

 

Allan Redfern was born at Haughton, Denton, Lancashire, in 1888 to Robert Redfern and Ann(e) Etchells who were married at St Anne’s Church, Haughton, Denton, on the 14 February 1887. His father died at Denton in 1890, aged 30 years. In 1901 he was resident with his widowed mother and brother, John Etchells (b. at Denton, 1890), on Hyde Road, Denton, where he was employed in the hatting industry. His mother married James Harwood at St John’s Church, Blackpool, Lancashire, in 1905 and they were resident on St Alban’s Road, St Anne’s-on-the-Sea, Lancashire.
