Son of the late Frederick and Sarah Parnwell of Brook Street, Elsworth, Cambridge

Israel had two brothers Frank and William and five sisters Elizabeth, Mary, Hannah, Martha and Phoebe. Frank married Violet Rossin in 1928 they had four children he died in 1980 age 82.

In 1911 Israel was working as a Farm Labourer

Pte Parnwell enlisted on 7th September 1914 and deployed to France on 14th February 1915. He paid his last visit home in May 1916. He served two years and eight months on the Western Front.

Both of his brothers served in the war Frank was a Sgt in the Grenadier Guards

Israel’s family placed a tribute in the Cambridge Independent Times it reads

PARNWELL – In loving memory of our dear son. Pte Israel Parnwell, Cambs Reg, of Elsworth, Killed in action in France September 26th 1917 aged 23 years. God took our loved one from our home, but not our hearts. From his sorrowing Mother, Father, Sisters and Brothers

Pte Parnwell was awarded the British, Victory and 15 Star Medals

Pte Israel (Jacob) Parnwell is remembered with honour at Tyne Cot Memorial
