Capt Arthur Hugh Bales Chaplin of 1st/1st Battalion Cambridgeshire Regiment died 21st May 1917 age 41 and is remembered with honour at Trumpington (St Mary and Michael) New churchyard. Charles was present at his brother death

Charles worked as an Auctioneers Apprentice in Ipswich.

He was missing in action in the 3rd Battle of Ypres Passehandaele

Charles left effects of £14 12s 9d to his wife Elizabeth
