411 of 876 2625 Pte Harry Beeden 1st/1st Battalion Cambridgeshire Regiment Died 24th September 1917 age 23

Son of Thomas and Kate Beeden of Marlesford, Wickham Market, Suffolk. Thomas worked as a carpenter/builder

Harry, Frank and Eric Beeden were three brothers who served in the 1st World War. Pte Frank Beeden joined the Army Cyclist Corps and saw action in Gallipoli 1915. Eric Beeden joined the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve although he did not see much action at sea but was docked at Felixstowe

Harry also had another brother Thomas and two sisters Ella and Ivey

Pte Beeden was born in 1894 he arrived in France on 14th January 1915.

He saw action with the 39th Division at the Somme all through the second half of 1916. In 1917 he was on the front line at the Battle of Langemarck, but it was at the Battle of the Menin Road Ridge that he lost his life, this battle formed part of what we now know as the third battle if Ypres or Passchendaele

Harry left effects of £16 12s 2d to his mother Kate

Pte Beeden was awarded the British, Victory and 15 Star Medals

Pte Harry Beeden is remembered with honour at Larch Wood (Railway Cutting) Cemetery
