Pte Watson unfortunately died from suicide by hanging himself whilst temporarily of unsound mind while on leave from France. There was an inquest held on 8th January. At the inquest his mother Laura Jane Watson said that her son was home on a 14 day leave after being in France for 12 months. She said he seemed very quite the night before but had never threatened to take his life. She took him a cup of tea to his room in the morning to find him with a piece of cord round his neck, tied to the bedpost. She called her husband and a policeman but Edgar was already deceased. No papers were by the body.

Pte Watson was awarded the British and Victory Medals
