Boyce, Arthur Alfred Jonathan

He was born 16 Feb 1896, in Cheviot (NZ); and died 7 Jun 1917, in Messines. He was just twenty one years old, and left no family behind. Before joining the army in 1915, he was an engine driver.

 

His father was unlisted on the birth registration.

His mother was Rosina Anne Boyce, b. 1 Jan 1879, Timaru (NZ); d. May 1957, Gisborne (NZ).

She later married Arthur Camphart Selby (b. 1876; d. 1930, Puketurua (NZ), 20 Dec 1920.

It appears that Arthur was brought up as if he was a sibling of Rosina's rather than her son, as seen on next-of-kin listings on his military records.

 

Arthur's maternal grandparents were:

Boyce, Frederick Royal b. 7 Mar 1852, Brighton (Ssx.); d. 24 Jun 1899, Cheviot (NZ)

Shears, Mary Elizabeth b. 27 Jul 1856, Lewisham (Kent); d. 24 Oct 1926, Christchurch (NZ)

They married 19 Oct 1872 in Bromley (Kent), and had nine children.
