Kingcome, Howard William

(my 4th cousin 4xr)

note: the spelling of Kingcome could vary within the family, including Kingcomb and Kingcombe.

He was born 26 Jun 1895, in Noss Mayo (Dev.)and died 11 Mar 1916, at sea. He was only 20 years old, and had no family of his own.

 

He left school and joined the navy at just 16 years old. The Kingcome family had long had ties to the sea.

 

His father was George Henry Kingcome, born late 1868, in Revelstoke (Dev.); and died mid 1937, in St. Austell (Corn.).

His mother was Mary Jane Axworthy, born mid 1871, in Plymstock (Dev.); and died early 1931, in St. Columb (Corn.).

They were married during the later part of 1891, in Plymouth (Dev.) and had seven children.

 

Howard's maternal grandparents were:

Axworthy, William George b. 1847, Plympton St. Mary (Dev.); d. 6 Jan 1921, Wembury (Dev.).

Pollard, Letitia Mary b. 1851, Staddiscombe (Dev.); d. 1874, Plympton St. Mary.

They were married during 1870, in Plymouth (Dev.).

 

Howard's paternal grandparents were:

Kingcome, Henry John b. 1839, Revelstoke (Dev.); d. May 1914, Devonshire.

Kingcome, Mary Perring b. 1840, Revelstoke (Dev); d. 1913, Plymouth (Dev.).

They were both 2nd cousins and 2nd cousins 1xr, who married in 1863, at Stoke Damerel (Dev.), and had eight children together.

 

Henry's parents were:

Kingcome, William Walke b. 24 Nov 1795, Revelstoke (Dev.); d. Apr 1868, Devonshire

Carter, Jane b. 1804, Revelstoke (Dev.); d. Dec 1863, Poplar (Lon.)

They married about 1825, in Revelstoke (Dev.), and had seven children.

 

Mary's parents were:

Kingcome, Henry Ellis b. 29 May 1814, Revelstoke (Dev.); d. 1894, Revelstoke (Dev.).

Kingcomb, Sarah Perring b. 1813, Devonshire; d. 1880, Plympton St. Mary (Dev.)

They were 1st cousins 1xr who married during the later part of 1838, in Stoke Damerel (Dev.), and had eight children.

 

The Kingcome (various spellings) family line can be traced back to Richard Kingcomb (or Kinckham), b. 1634, Revelstoke (Dev.); d. 1696, Revelstoke (Dev.), and Joan Blackaller b. 1634, Revelstoke (Dev.); d. Apr 1695, Revelstoke (Dev.).

This couple married 7 Apr 1654, in Revelstoke (Dev.), and had three known children.
