Tom died leading a company of 8th Battn East Yourshires in the Battle of Bazentin on the Somme on 14th July 1914. He knew this could be his last battle because he told my grandfather to make arrangements for his death before he left home. None one knew where and how he died till about 2012. His name appears on the ‘In Memoriam’ list in Beverley Cathedral.  His wife -our great Aunt- had to go into domestic service to survive after his death. It was a family tragedy. Tom will always be remembered with love and respect in our family.
