Pioneer Archibald Little Orr, 'O' Special Company, Royal Engineers, born on 6 October 1896 at Hamilton, Lanarkshire, was the son of David Little Orr, a Grocer, and Margaret Campbell Orr, of Townhead Street, Hamilton.

His siblings were Margaret, Thomas, Donald, David, Robert, Elizabeth, Marion, James, Dugald and Hugh.

He was the tenth of their 11 children. Archibald attended Hamilton Academy. As with many students at this time, Archibald had enrolled at the University for the year 1914-1915, in his case to study Medicine, but on the outbreak of war felt obliged to enlist.

Archibald was killed in action on 12 July 1917, age 20, in France and is buried at Cambrin Military Cemetery, Cambrin, north of Arras, Pas de Calais, France. At the time of his death he was a Pioneer in the Poison Gas Response Engineers. He is commemorated on the Hamilton War Memorial, and Hamilton Academy War Memorial.

His eldest brother, Thomas, had completed both medical and science degrees and younger brother Hugh, who had also enlisted, survived the war and went on to complete his medical training at the University.
