Frederick Gray was born in Broom, Bedfordshire, on 20th September 1891, one of five brothers. He worked as a groom on the Shuttleworth estate. He married Ethel Milton, of Biggleswade, on 6th November 1915 and their son Harry was born on 1st May 1917. He was killed in action on 6th April 1918 and is buried in Gommecourt British Cemetery no. 2, near Hebuterne, France. His memory is commemorated by his seventeen descendents.
