Alick, I hope you do not mind me addressing you with the name inscribed on the family gravestone, No 90 in Urray West Cemetery: "and our dear brother Alick who died of wounds, 11th March 1915". Since we do not know how long you were in hospital we cannot be sure of where you were when you were wounded, but it was most probably in the vicinity of Verdun where heavy fighting had occurred just a few days before you died. Since you must have joined up for service fairly soon after war had been declared, you were obviously keen to serve. Although your father had died in 1907, I see that your mother died six months after you did, so we have sincere sympathy for her in mourning your death. Rest in Peace. Harry.
