Frank was born on 6 December 1893 in Richmond, Victoria, Australia.  He was the only son of English immigrant parents Frederick George and Mary Annie Lee (nee Bond).  Frank was the second youngest of four children.  His siblings are Mabel Annie, Eveline Winifred and Doris Lillian Lee.   Frank, a grocer, enlisted in AIF when he was 21 years old on 30 June 1915.  He was attached to the 59th Battalion and within a month of arriving in France, this division was embroiled in its first major battle on the Western Front, the battle of Fromelles.  The 59th Battalion attacked in the first wave of this battle.  They were up against the German machine-gunners who were positioned on higher ground overlooking the battlefield and as a result, suffered heavy casualties.  Frank was one of them.  He was killed instantly by machine gun fire as he charged in the first wave.  He was 22 years of age.
