Pte Potter of Mason Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire was born on 14th October 1883. He was one of Kitchener's Marines who transferred from the Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby) Regiment to the Royal Marine Light Infantry. He was killed n action in the Dardenelles. He left behind his parents and a wife Florence (nee Munton) whom he married at St Mary's Church on 29th October 1910. Prior to enlisting on 31st August 1914 he worked as miner.
