Pte Joseph Miller of 6 Morley Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield was born on 17th March 1884 to parents Charles and Matilda.. He married Emma Hepworth at St Marys Parish Church on 30th November 1909 and they had a daughter, Matilda (Tilley). He died in hospital in Verdun whilst a prisoner of war, from wounds received in action. He was 33 years of age. Prior to enlisting in June 1916 he was employed by the Urban District Council. He sang in the Parish Church choir and was voluntary organist for St Modwens Church.
