I came across the sad story of Robert's death whilst researching my family history in 2014. Letters found from his mother to her sister over in Australia revealed her heartache as she worried about her son in France. Her last letter explained how they had to wait for 16 months after their last contact with Robert to discover that he had died all that time ago.
