This is the online tree that I have created for James Freemantle and his brother, Thomas Freemantle at Ancestry.com. https://www.ancestry.com.au/family-tree/tree/155719180/family James and Thomas Freemantle, 26, died on 11 Nov 1914 whilst serving with the 1st Battalion, the Scots Guards. Sons of William and Sarah Freemantle, of Easton, Winchester. The brothers have no known grave and are commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing, Ypres. Some notes about my project: I have decided to "adopt" more missing soldiers - those who were in the Scots Guards and died on 11 Nov 1914 along with the relative I started with. About 100 soldiers from this regiment died that day with Frederick Gilbert Hartwright and have no known place of burial. It was the First Battle of Ypres (19 Oct to 22 Nov 1914) which culminated at the Battle of Nonne Bosschen on 11 November. The missing fallen are memorialized on the Menin Gate on Panel 11. As I have time, I will build small trees for them. Hopefully finding some great grandparents in the process. I know that I will not get to them all but will at least make a start. Some are a bit of a challenge as the Commonwealth War Graves Commission does not have any parents listed. At least it will put my researching skills to the test.
