Thomas Mannion - real name Anthony McNulty - enlisted under age in his cousin’s name having previously tried to enlist in his own name.  By the time his mother realised he was overseas.

He sustained a stomach wound I. 1916 and was returned to England.  Following a stay in Stafford Hospital he returned to his regiment in Ypres.  From records at the Staffordshire Regiment’s Lichfield Barracks he was on duty laying duck boards on the night of 10th October near Zillebeck. The following day an officer and 3 men were reported missing.  The nearest cemetery to where Thomas (Anthony) was killed is Larch Wood Railway Cuttings.

As he has no known grave he is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial near Ypres.

i am immensely proud that he was my uncle and my father, born in August 1918, was named Anthony after his brother.
