John William Cauldron was  the younger brother of my grandmother Alice. My dad Leslie Howard,as a very young boy, remembered  his Uncle Jack going off to war with his knapsack. 85 years later following up our interest in The Great War we found an old photograph of Uncle Jack and my husband researched his war record. As frequent visitors to The Somme we went to the cemetery at Pozieres and with our two grown up children laid a poppy wreath on the memorial where his name was engraved. We thanked Uncle Jack for what he had done for his country and generations of his family still to come.
