101933 Company Serjeant Major Matthew J Rathborne of the 43rd Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, formerly 2661 Lance Serjeant of the King’s Royal Rifle Corps:

 

He died on the 24 February 1920, aged 47 years, and he is buried in Whalley (Queen Mary's Hospital) Military Cemetery, Lancashire.

 

Matthew J Rathborne was born at Sandymount, Dublin, in 1872/73 to John Rathborne and Mary. He married Eleanora Bennett at Christ Church, Denton, Lancashire, in 1907. In 1911 he was boarding with Margaret Ann Bowker and others on Mottram Road, Stalybridge, employed as a tramways manager (electrical and mechanical engineering). His widow was resident on Charlotte Street, Fitzroy Square, London.
