Private William McCREE
(40756), North Staffs 8th
Died 4th Nov.1918, aged 24
William was born in Nottingham in early 1896. He was the middle child of 5 of William and Ann McCree. In 1911 he was living with his parents and siblings: Maude, Ernest, Harriet and Albert and was he working as a cabinet maker's assistant packer. His father was a cardboard box cutter in the lace industry.
He was killed in action only 1 week before the armistice and was laid to rest along with 23 other soldiers, (including my grand-uncle), in a peaceful little churchyard in the small French town of Wargnies Le Grand.
There will be a small ceremony there at 11am on 4th November 2018, each soldier will be remembered with a poppy cross.
