Private Ernest BUTROID

(42685), North Staffs 8th (A Coy)

Died 4th Nov.1918, aged 23

Ernest Butroid was born on 18th May 1895 in Mexborough, Yorkshire, being 1 of 9 children of Jesse and Sarah Butroid. He worked as a horseman on farm prior to enlisting.

In 1911 he was living with his parents, 4 siblings and a cousin in Babworth, Retford.

He was killed in action only 1 week before the armistice and was laid to rest along with 23 other soldiers, (including my grand-uncle), in a peaceful little churchyard in the small French town of Wargnies Le Grand.

There will be a small ceremony there at 11am on 4th November 2018, each soldier will be remembered with a poppy cross.

I believe the information I have given is correct, but if you find any errors, I am sorry, please correct them.
