Lieutenant Benjamin Molyneux, 3rd Cheshire Regiment (St Bees School, SH 1909-12), died of wounds on November 8th 1918. In September 1914 he enlisted in The King’s (Liverpool Regiment) and volunteered for active service, but being only eighteen years of age at the time, was not sent abroad until July 1915. After twelve months service in France he returned to England and obtained a commission in the Cheshire Regiment. He was seriously wounded at Messines in June 1917, and was invalided home. In August 1918 he returned to France,and was appointed Scout and Intelligence Officer. He was mortally wounded by a shell on November 4,while visiting the front line at Jenlain, near Valenciennes, and was awarded the Military Cross for his magnificent work as Battalion Scout Officer.
