Thomas Cochrane reid was my great granfather. He was born in Colraine Northern Ireland in 1885 He left Ireland as a young man to find work in Glasgow and eventually got work in the shipyards. When war broke out he was actually exempt from duty,he had a partial club foot and because of his job in the yards. He also had 5 children to my great Gran He decided to try his luck enlisting with the Northumberland Fusiliers ,why, the family has no idea but in 1915 he was accepted and became Private Reid service number 201491 of the 1st/4th Bn. Northumberland Fusiliers. He was ****ed whilst attacking a German machine gun position in the Houlthhulst Forest on 26th October 1917. This battle is now known the world over as P***chendaele. His body was never recovered and he is remembered on the Tyne Cot memorial panel number 19-23
