Harold Oliver was killed on 30th May 1916 aboard HMS Defence, during the Battle of Jutland. He was born at Torpoint, Cornwall, the son of Edmond and Rebecca Oliver. His father had served in the Royal Navy, and his Son Aubrey was to lose his life in World War 2, when HMS Phoenix, a submarine was sunk by an Italian Warship. His youngest daughter, Esme, was born one month before he died, so he never saw her. Another son,, always known as Bob, served through the Second World War, but survived.
