Private Herbert "Bertie" Griffith was my grandmother's brother. She was just a girl of 10 years of age when he gave his life on the battlefields of France on 21st March 1918. She was too young to truly remember him, but often spoke of her brother Bertie who was killed in the final months of such a brutal war. He was just 19. Bertie's body was never found, so he remains forever in those poppy fields of the Somme. Thank you for your sacrifice Bertie Burrows Griffith.
