Willie was born on 24th Feb 1898 son of Albert and Mary and living in Eastmoor Wakefield. By 1901 they had moved to Taylor's Croft Kirkhamgate. In 1911 he was living with his widowed mother and siblings in Wakefield and working as a colliery scale picker.
