He was killed in action on the 2 January 1918, aged 32 years, and he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.

 

Edwin Wilde born at Denton in 1885 to John Wilde and Esther Bennett née Smith who were married at St Lawrence’s Church, Denton, in 1883. In 1891 he was resident with his widowed mother, siblings and half siblings on Two Trees Lane, Denton. In 1911 he was resident with his sister, Bertha (23), and brother, John (22), on Hyde Road, Denton, employed as a warehouseman in the hatting industry. He married Mary Jones at Christ Church, Denton, in 1912 and they were resident on Nelson Street, Hyde.
