7982 Allan Oldfield of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers, transferred to 79th Company, Labour Corps, with Service No. 380597:

 

He was killed in action on the 20 October 1918, aged 38 years, and he is buried in St Aubert British Cemetery, France.

 

Allan Oldfield was born at Gorton, Manchester, in 1878 to Solomon Oldfield and Sarah Watson who were married at Manchester Cathedral in 1868. In 1901 he was resident with his widowed father and siblings on High Street, Gorton, employed as a steam hammer driver (operator). He married Lizzie Hill at Christ Church, Denton, in 1907. In 1911 he and his wife were lodging with James Knowles and his wife, Cristina, on Wilton Street, Denton, where he was employed in the hatting industry.
