Peter Ward Gordon was born in Broughty Ferry, Dundee in August 1897. However, by 1911, according to his entry on the Scottish census records, he was living with his sister Isabella and brother-in-law Melville Brown at 102, Shore Head, St Andrews. In 1912 Melville Brown took up the post of professional to the Malone Golf Club, Belfast and took Peter on as his assistant. Enlisting as a Private in the 2nd Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders at the tender age 19 and five days after his birthday Peter would fall in action during the Battle of the Somme. His name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing.
