Joshua was the son of the landlord of the village pub in Esholt, West Yorkshire.  He survived the Battle of the Somme and the Third Battle of Ypres only to be killed by a stray shell falling into the dug-out where he was sleeping.  Joshua was killed along with two others from his company.
