Thomas Rainbow, Tom, was my grandmother's favourite brother.  After he died at Grandcourt on the Somme battlefields she kept his framed photograph in her bedroom all her life.  I now have that photograph and it is one of my most treasured posessions.  I never knew my Great Uncle Tom but in his face I can see both my grandmother and my father.

Tom was engaged to a school teacher called Florrie Gray.  She never married and remained close to Tom's family until she died.
