Before the war Willie worked in a Cotton Mill and then as a weaver at Messrs. John Wilkinson, Park Shed, Skipton. Attached to the Territorials, he was called up on the outbreak of war and went to France with his regiment in April 1915, while on leave in May 1917, he married Mary Elizabeth Cowgill. He was killed in action on the 12th Aug 1917on the Western Front. He was a member of the Otley Street Baptist Church, and was connected with the Sunday School.
