Over 20 years ago, while on holiday in France with my Mum and Dad we went to visit the grave of William Howatson. He would have been my Dad's great uncle. It was very emotional and I have always remembered it. This year while visiting Fort George I had a look through the remembrance book and found William's details and it reminded me of that visit. At the time we were in France I would have been a teenager with really little idea about World War One. That part of France is covered with War Graves from WW1 and it brought home to me the scale of the losses.
