Edgar Chalk was born on the 24th August 1895 at 18 Devon Street in Liverpool, Lancashire. He was the fourth of nine children born to George Chalk and Agnes Chalk (nee Blacklock).
He enlisted with 7th Btn. Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and in September 1915 arrived in France. In 1916 the battalion was in action during the Battle of the Somme, Edgar was wounded sometime in July and died of his wounds on 28th July 1916 aged 20 years.
Edgar was buried at Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-l'Abbe, Somme, France.
