301244 Private John Wilde of the 1/8th Battalion, Manchester Regiment:

 

He was killed in action on the 9 January 1918, aged 21 years, and he is buried in Gorre British and Indian Cemetery, France.

 

John Wilde was born at Hyde, Cheshire, in 1896 to Fred Wilde and Mary Frances Lowe who were married at St Mark’s Church, Bredbury, in 1892.  In 1911 John Wilde was resident with his uncle, Arthur Hilton, and his family on Manchester Road, Denton, employed as an apprentice in the hatting industry. He is the brother of Mrs Bertha Worthington née Wilde of Edna Street, Hyde.

 

John Wilde’s father, S4/041822 Corporal Fred Wilde of No. 3 Field Bakery, Army Service Corps, died on the 12 January 1917, aged 46 years.
