58006 Lance Corporal William Edward Boardman of the 227th Company, Machine Gun Corps, formerly 5189 of the Manchester Regiment:
He was awarded the Military Medal for an act of bravery in the field. He died of wounds on the 16 August 1917, aged 36 years, and he is buried in Artillery Wood Cemetery, Belgium.
William Edward Boardman was born at Denton in 1881 to Joseph Boardman and Sarah Webster who were married at St Mary’s Church, Lambeth, on the 14 October 1877. In 1901 he was resident with his parents and siblings on Windmill Lane, Denton, employed in the hatting industry. He married Lydia Jones at Stockport in 1903 and they were resident on Ince Street, Heaton Norris, Stockport.
