Harold Cadwell was born in Churchtown, Lancashire in 1889 but, with his family had had moved to Southport by 1901 where he would begin his career in golf. In 1908 he was elected a member of The Professional Golfers' Association and by 1911 had journeyed further south to become assistant to Fred Robson the golf professional at West Surrey Golf Club. However, by 1913 he returned north again to become attached to Hesketh Golf Club under the wing of resident professional Peter McEwan. Whilst there he applied for the position of professional at Buxton & High Peak Golf Club and out of 36 applicants he was successful. In 1917 Harold enlisted in the 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment. After being severly injured in battle, Lance Corporal Cadwell died of his wounds in hospital at Rouen in August 1918.
