I know very little of this brave young man. He was my Father in laws Great Uncle. I know from military records Robert died of wounds recieved during the battle for Delville Wood. It seems the family rarely spoke of him after his death. When he died he was carrying a photo of his family in his pocket it was damaged and has blood on the corner. When his Grandmother died the photograph and the medallion his family received was passed to my Father in law. He had them beautifully framed so he would not be forgotten. I placed my poppy in Delville Wood as I am sure he is now with his friends there. One day I will visit his grave and will sprinkle my daughters ashes there.
