My father, Ernest John Mars, also served in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (1st Bn) as a regular from 1936 serving in Palestine then through the desert campaigns with Eighth Army, the Battle of Crete and the Italian campaign until demobilisation after the war. With good fortune he survived; somehow I know he would have known of you from his regimental history and would, if he were alive today, add his commemoration. I do so in his memory and in the memory of all those of our name.
