In 1901 he was living at 41 New King Street, Deptford with his parents Thomas and Elizabeth. He had 2 brother George William and Frederick. He served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders. He enlisted 2 September 1914 and his occupation was given as a sawyer. He was 5ft 7 ¼ inches tall and weighed 127lbs. he had brown eyes and brown hair and a fresh complexion. He had a scar on his left thumb.
