He was killed in action on the 31 August 1917, aged 38 years, and he is buried in the Villers-Faucon Communal Cemetery, France.
Charles John Vaughan was born at Didsbury, Manchester, in 1879 and he is the son of Andrew Arthur Vaughan and Maria Wilson who were married at St Philip’s Church (Birmingham Cathedral) on the 11 December 1876. He married Alice Catlow at St Alban’s Church, Stockport, in 1901. In 1911 he was resident with his wife and two children, Alice (b. at Denton, 1904) and George (b. at Denton, 1907), on Hyde Road, Denton, employed as a bricklayer.
