He was born 9 December 1895 and baptised on the 7 March 1897 at St. Pauls, Deptford.  The family were living at 85 Douglas Street, Deptford.

In 1911 he was living at 48 Warwick Street, Deptford with his family. He was employed as a spirit merchant clerk. He had a brother Arthur and a sister Elsie May.

 He enlisted 6 July 1915.

He is also commemorated at St.Pauls Church, Deptford.
