Sapper Arthur H Carr of the 422nd Field Coy Royal Engineers was husband of Emily Carr of 11 Gladstone Road, Trowbridge, Wiltshire. I have the last postcard he sent to his son Fred (my father) two weeks before he died. It was a seaside scene at Boulogne sur Mer and said "Dear Fredie, just a card to say I am quite all right here. How would you like to see this place and use your space" He died aged 40 on the first day of the Battle of Passchendaele, 31st July 1917 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate at Ypres. He will forever be remembered for his bravery by his paternal grandchildren Stuart, Martin & Judith and their families. RIP
