29727 Private Louis Jackson of the 1st Battalion, Border Regiment, formerly 37073 of the Manchester Regiment and 24231 of the Grenadier Guards:

 

He was killed in action on the 28 September 1918, aged 37 years, and he is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

 

Louis Jackson (aka Lewis) was born in Denton in 1880 and he is the son of Joseph Jackson and Elizabeth Griffiths who were married at St Martin’s Church, Ashton-upon-Mersey, in 1876. In 1901 he was resident with his parents and siblings on Gresswell Street, Denton, employed as a labourer in the hatting industry. In the same year he married Edith Howarth at St George’s Church, Hyde. In 1911 he was resident with his wife and a boarder on Cross Street, Hyde, employed as a labourer and his parents were resident on St Annes Road, Denton.
