When Albert Edmund Hardy was born in December 1893 in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, his father, Ernest, was 30 and his mother, Berthe, was 25. He had three brothers and one sister. He died on 6 September 1916 at the age of 22, and was buried in his hometown.
