One of the crew of the BELGIAN PRINCE which was sunk by U-55 175 miles from Tory Island. The crew were ordered to go across to the U-Boat and get out of the lifeboats. The lifeboats were sunk and their lifebelts were thrown in the sea. The U-Boat then sailed for about two miles before submerging with 41 of the ship's crew still on the deck, only three survived. The ship's master had been taken inside the U-Boat, he was never heard of again so it is presumed he was also killed.. The incident was a major scandal at the time but has been largely forgotten now. http://www.maritimequest.com/daily_event_archive/2008/07_july/31_ss_belgian_prince.htm This is the inscription on Morton's grave at Kilbrandon.
